BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-The proposed entertainment district in downtown Bowling Green is now one step closer to being a reality.

On Tuesday night, the City Commissioners unanimously voted to establish the downtown Entertainment Destination Center.

Now the plan heads to the state for approval of boundaries. The state will answer within 30 days. The boundary lines are from 11th and Chestnut to 6th street.

The concept will allow people to carry open alcoholic beverages from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday in certain parts of downtown.

“It’s exciting. It’s very exciting. As Bowling Green’s growing, we’re offering more for entertainment, festivals. Trying to help shoulder up the economic development in our downtown,” said City Commissioner Sue Parrigin.

The boundaries include the ballpark, Mariah’s, Mellow Mushroom and more. The EDC could start as early as June.
