61-year-old Cyrus reportedly met the Australian singer last year when they collaborated on a single called New Day, which was released in August 2021.
The couple is “believed to be engaged” after Firerose was spotted with a “huge” diamond ring, the Sun reports.
The diamond ring was spotted by eagle-eyed fans in her most recent Instagram post on September 14.
Following an inflow of comments suspecting the engagement, the singer has since restricted comments.
“Billy is happier than he has been in a long time with Firerose,” a source told the Sun..
“There had been problems in his marriage for a while. He and Tish have been on and off for the best part of a decade, but things had been over for some time before the announcement in April.
“Not everyone sees his decision to move on so quickly in the same light though.”
The source went on to refer to the impact on Cyrus’ children, particularly Miley, 29, and his youngest, Noah, 22.
“There has been some tension with Miley, which is sad to see, but everyone is hopeful that they will be able to get over it soon enough,” they said.
“Thankfully his other kids do not have an issue with him and he has just collaborated with his youngest, Noah, on a song.”
The engagement is yet to be confirmed by Firerose, Cyrus or any members of his family.
The reported engagement comes just five months after the Old Town Road singer and his wife of 28 years Tish filed for divorce.
The couple cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reasoning behind their split and at the time Tish claimed they had been living separately for two years, according to US Weekly.
Tish reportedly also requested “equitable division and distribution of all marital assets” and that she be granted her separate property.
Along with Miley and Noah, the couple are parents to Brandi, 35, Trace, 33 and Braison, 28.
Before the April divorce announcement, they had separated twice before, filing for divorce in October 2010 before announcing they were withdrawing the divorce papers.
“I’ve dropped the divorce,” Cyrus said on The View at the time.
“I want to put my family back together … Things are the best they’ve ever been.”
In June 2013, the papers were refiled by Tish and were dropped again the following month.
“We both woke up and realised we love each other and decided we want to stay together,” the former couple said in a joint statement at the time.
“We both went into couples’ therapy something we haven’t done in 22 years of being together, and it’s brought us closer together and really opened up our communication in amazing ways.”
