Between SAS: Rogue Heroes, another period drama about the world of underground boxing starring the singular Stephen Graham, a biographical drama about the rise of Enzo Ferrari, and of course, Peaky Blinders‘ hotly-anticipated feature length follow-up, Steven Knight has somehow found time to pen another series dubbed This Town.
Announced back in late 2022, “This Town tells the story of an extended family and four young people who are drawn into the world of ska and two-tone music, which exploded from the grass roots of Coventry and Birmingham in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, uniting black, white, and Asian youths.” Against the backdrop of social tensions and civil unrest.

“This is a project very close to my heart,” Knight said of This Town.
“It’s about an era I lived through and know well and it involves characters who I feel I grew up with. It’s a love letter to Birmingham and Coventry but I hope people from all over the world will relate to it.”
“Ska music has such a huge impact on music and culture; in the 80’s and through to modern day,” said Alice Webb, Mercury Studios CEO.
“Expect fierce new music as well as serious homage to classics of the time. It’s going to be unstoppable.”
This forthcoming six-part affair will be led by Levi Brown, Jordan Bolger, Ben Rose, and Eve Austin; alongside Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Nicholas Pinnock (Marcella), and David Dawson (My Policeman). But there’s a chance for the everyday punter to get involved…
According to a casting call posted via social media:
Skinheads and people with shaved heads are wanted for an upcoming BBC series, This Town (by the creators of Peaky Blinders). In and around West Bromwich. Must have good availability from now until the end of February.
The request states that Film Artistes Association (FAA) rates apply with a flat fee of £10 for travel. Anyone genuinely interested should email [email protected] using “Skinheads” as the subject line.

As for the Peaky Blinders movie, last year, Cillian Murphy himself revealed the screenplay was almost complete with cameras scheduled to begin rolling sometime in 2023.
“I’ve still not read it [the script] but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television,” noted the man behind Tommy Shelby, OBE.
“The television part of the story is finished. If there’s more stories to tell, I’m there, I just haven’t read it yet but it’s close apparently.”
“I know exactly what’s going to happen, I know what the story is and I’m writing at the moment,” said Steven Knight.
“It’s a very specific story, that’s based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way.”
