Hollywood star Thandiwe Newton has reportedly been axed from the Magic Mike film after a furious bust-up with Channing Tatum over the Oscars slap. Will Smith made headlines when he slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards earlier this month.

A source told the Sun newspaper: “They fell out over the debacle at The Oscars. I was on set. I watched her and watched him. They were in and out of the house where we were filming having this confrontation.”

“The source added: It was a tense exchange of words, but suddenly it escalated – Channing got into this car and he disappeared.” Directer Steven Soderbergh reportedly didn’t take Thandie’s side.

Will Smith has said he will “accept and respect the Academy’s decision” after he was banned from all Academy events or programmes for 10 years. The Academy made this decision following his “unprecedented” behaviour at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27 where he took to the stage and slapped Chris Rock.

A statement from the actor given to the PA news agency said: “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.” Smith has been banned from all Academy events or programmes for 10 years following his “unprecedented” behaviour at the 94th Academy Awards, according to reports.

Academy president David Rubin acknowledged the organisation “fell short” in its response to the incident and hoped the decision would “begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted”.
